Overview

The tutor queue applet allows tutors and students to log in to a waiting room. Students are then paired up with tutors when the tutors become available, and each tutor-student pair gets their own unique whiteboard/chat room.

Setup

In order to use the tutor queue, you must set up usernames and passwords for each tutor and student, using your Admin Page. You must set Disable Interaction permission for your tutors (otherwise the user will be treated as a student).

Using the Tutor Queue

Each tutor and student simply clicks on the link for your tutor queue room. When a student logs on, the applet checks to see if any tutors are available. If a tutor is available, the tutor is asked if they want to tutor this student. If the tutor does not reply within 15 seconds, they are logged off and another tutor is asked. If all tutors are busy, the student is told to wait. If no tutors are logged on, the student is told to try again later.

When a tutor has finished, the applet checks to see if any students are waiting and, if so, it picks the longest-waiting student and connects them with the tutor.

Once a student is connected to a tutor, they enter their own unique whiteboard/chat room. For more details, see the Whiteboard Help page.

To finish the tutoring session, either the tutor or the student simply clicks the Finish button, or closes the whiteboard window.
